– UGA/UGAs –
In order to be more accurate and unique, and to let consumers know where the more delicate production areas are located, the Chianti Classico Consorzio (if there is no accident) will add a new geographical system to the Chianti Classico DOCG in July 2023, called “UGA/UGAs” (Unita Geografiche Aggiuntive), which means “additional geographical units”, with a total of 11 locations including Radda, Greve, Gaiole, Castellina, Vagliagli, Lamole, Montefioralle, San Casciano, Panzano, Castelnuovo Berardenga and San Donato in Poggio, where our Fattoria Montecchio winery is located is also included.
But not all wineries in these 11 places can get the UGA certification, but must have the qualification to produce Gran Selezione (such as Fattoria Montecchio).
This is just the beginning to kick off a new chapter for Chianti Classico wine. It is the result of the people on this land who have working and promoting Chianti Classico wine for 30 years, and it deserves applause and encouragement.
